Padres,
That`s a pretty motivating talk that Carly gave. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. I mean, it`s not like I had a front row seat during her whole entire conversion. Seriously motivates me. Well..... wow!
This week was super super wet. It rained for like four days straight. I kinda felt at home really. But it`s not like we just go under cover and hide from the rain, nope, straight into it all. And yeah, super super wet. Here in Cancun the streets don`t exactly drain very well and so there were a lot of streets that were completely flooded. As you can see in the photos.... So yeah.
My story begins on Wednesday when we go to eat at the house of some members. It was already raining by then. And so we had an appointment on the other side of our area right after we ate, so the Brother was kind enough to give us a lift.
He drives a little Isuzu tracker and it`s a little higher than most cars, well normal cars anyway, it`s not THAT big. Anyways. So he takes us and it`s raining pretty hard already and we take a street and start heading down it and up ahead we see that there`s a little bit of water. No problem, the Tracker can handle it. So we enter into this puddle, more like a lake, that is about three or four blocks long. Yeah, big. And about halfway through we realize that there is a lot more water than we thought and the water keeps rising, and rising, and rising! So I whip out my camera and start to take a video of it and just as I do that I feel my foot get wet, the water was getting in the car! and then his car starts sputtering and I`m like ¨oh great.... if I only had my truck!¨
But we made it through, even though it took a little for the Tracker to recover from the water. So yeah. First part of our adventure. And so we get out where we were going in the rain and run to the house of our investigator and he`s not there! So we tell his wife to tell him we stopped by and we started off into the rain, running really, and so we take the sidewalk because the street is totally flooded, we take a left and the whole street is flooded, and so we quickly look for a spot to take cover to think out our situation.
While we are under cover it starts to rain super hard. So we decide to wait a little bit. And it keeps raining super hard and the water is rising in the street as well. We`re somewhat dry under cover but the sidewalk is about the same height as the water and so when a car passed we had to jump up on the wall to escape from the water.
We`re waiting like 10 minutes and then I notice that the water is still rising and it`s starting to creep up onto the sidewalk. And we`re like ¨What do we do?¨ Then a police truck enters into the flooded street and starts to go towards us, but he`s going a little fast and I think he`s going to have a little fun and splash the Mormons or something.
Now, a little background on the police here in Mexico. Their not exactly the best known for their kindness and hospitality, so I didn`t think anything other than that. But the truck stops in front of us, and we have to jump up onto the fence/wall again because of the wave he made. And rolls down the window and asks us where we`re going, then tells us to get in and he`ll take us there! Holy cow! I was so surprised!
So we got a ride from the police and we went to a members house and got some ponchos and everything went smooth from then on, still wet, but better than stuck on a flooding street. So yeah. Long story but it was fun. I hope you can all watch the video too. Good stuff.
But anyways.
This week went ok. We found a couple people and we`re planning the baptism of Aflredo and Blanca for this Saturday but since it`s stake conference this Sunday they won`t get confirmed until may, which is kind of a bummer. I asked the bishop if we could do it during conference and he said no. Great.
Elder Hawkins knows a TON of scriptures and his scriptures looks like a coloring book with how much he`s got them marked up, and he only has six months in the mish. He kind of makes me want to mark my scriptures more. I hate how my mind goes blank when I start to type... I can`t think of anything else to say.
I`m doing better with my finances, I haven`t been in need of money recently, and I don`t think I will be for a bit.
Things are going great down here. Some people are scared with the things that are going on and there`s a lot of trash that`s being passed around on the TV and stuff. I really hope that these people could just come to know the truth. I hope that everything keeps going great for everyone! I miss you all!
Love
Elder Giles
