The new president is awesome! He is so excited to be here and it definitely shows. He really helped me out a lot. Everything that he talked to us about in some way was geared to me. It was a really neat experience.
A hurricane passed by? That shows how much we know down here ha ha. We´ve had a bit of crazy weather and everything but mostly rain and wind.
Tuesday we did splits with the District Leader and yeah, it wasn´t a very productive day because it was raining all day long. Down here when it rains people scurry inside and stay there. It´s actually funny...and not at the same time. Sometimes when a family doesn´t go to church we stop by later and ask them why they didn´t go, and what do they respond? It was cloudy. What? But did it rain? Nooo.... So yeah, sometimes it´s funny how the people respond down here.
Something that I´ve really realized is how much work it really takes to achieve an elevated level of understanding and obedience to the Gospel. Sometimes people see us and they tell us that they want to be like us and I feel like straight up telling them ¨Well then stop what you are doing, leave everything, and dedicate two years of your life to the Lord.¨ That is what really makes the difference. But there are so few who do it! It´s really quite sad. The world would be so different if everyone just lived the Gospel. My companion and I were talking about this the other day.
Things are going alright down here, a lot of our investigators are kind of flaking out, but we just need to help them to feel the spirit. Anyways. Not too much to report on this week. We had a ton of people in Sacrament meeting, like 230 or something. The ward is looking to dividing but the only thing that stops them is consistency in attendance and also lack of Priesthood holders.
So dad, I didn´t know that you and mom were going to be serving an 18 month long mission! I guess that´s what I get for not asking.
I talked with President Salinas (my new mission pres) about when I am going to be coming home. My return date will be either the 20th of September, or the 11th of October. The only thing that we´re waiting on is me making a decision. And I kind of want to know what you two think as well. I want to analyze this baby good. The reason why it is between those two dates is because the 20th falls on a normal transfer day and I would just join up with all of the other Elders that go home. The 11th falls in between transfers and I would just go home alone. President Salinas told me that he is fine with whatever decision that I make. But what do you think?
I hope that you all have a great week this week. I sure miss home, especially during these dates as well for the summer. I miss you all tons! Our scripture of the month is Alma 57:21, I like it a lot because the stripling warriors motivate me a ton.
Love you all!!
Elder Giles
